School district uses grant to provide community programs

GRANTON (WAOW) -- The Granton School District receives a $180,000 grant.

The district plans to use the money for after school programs, geared towards elementary students, teachers, and parents.

The program will provide extra learning opportunities for students, as well as programs designed to help kids become more physically active.

There will also be workshops for staff to improve their skills as teachers.

School leaders say the new program will also include the community and parents.

"We understand that a parent is a child's first and most important teacher. That's why we wanted to include the parent as an integral part of this program," teacher Becky Volenec said.

School leaders say they surveyed the community and parents to see what they might be interested in learning about.

They say popular survey choices will provide topics for classes.
