Woodchucks Sign UC-San Diego Outfielder

Posted:

WAUSAU, Wis., Apr. 4, 11 --   Danny Susdorf, a star outfielder at the University of California, San Diego, has officially signed with the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

The spitfire centerfielder from Newhall, Calif., can flat-out hit.  Thus far in his sophomore season with the Tritons, 21-11, Susdorf has started every game, has a team-leading .373 batting average, 22 runs scored, 20 runs-batted-in, 10 stolen bases and has played steady defense in center.

After choosing to attend San Diego University out of high school, Susdorf redshirted in 2009 for the Toreros, before transferring across town to Division II UC- San Diego.

While now attending one of the top public research institutions in the country, the change also clearly paid off on the field for the structural engineering major.

Able to play immediately following a cross-division transfer, Susdorf became an integral piece down the stretch in 2010 as a redshirt freshman, for a Tritons team that made it all the way to the Division II National Championship game.  In his final 71 at-bats of his freshman season, Susdorf tore-up the College World Series with a .450 batting average- garnering honors on the West Region All-Tournament Team.

A draft-eligible sophomore, more of the same numbers from Susdorf- and his pedigree, should undoubtedly allow Danny an eventual taste of professional baseball.  Susdorf's two older brothers, Billy and Steve, both went on to play Minor League ball after decorated collegiate careers, with Steve still active in the Phillies organization.

Leading a Tritons team that appears poised to repeat their run to the College World Series, Susdorf's hitting prowess, speed, and defensive ability will prove invaluable for the oft-small-ball Woodchucks under manager Guido Aspeitia, come summer 2011.
