April Tools for Schools winner

Posted:

MERRILL (WAOW) -- Kurt Vanden Heuvel is Newsline 9's Tools for Schools winner for the month of April.

Vanden Heuvel teaches physical education at Merrill High School.  He says he'll use the $300 to buy new equipment to teach the freshman class CPR and First Aid.

He says, "With a lot of our budget being cut it helps out tremendously because the books we have are getting kind of worn out and kids have to share books. Some kids want to take the material home and read it but I can't really let them because we need it back in case they forget it or we don't have extras that we can hand out. So, it actually takes away from the learning. So, this will help buy more materials."

Right now about 200 Merrill High School students are CPR certified.  This money will help certify a couple hundred more.

Tools for Schools is sponsored by River Valley Bank, Courtesy Motors and of course, Newsline 9.
