Juror illness leads to recess in sweat lodge case

CAMP VERDE, Ariz. (AP) -- Jurors in a self-help author's manslaughter trial got an extra day off Tuesday when one of them called in sick.

Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Warren Darrow says the trial will resume Wednesday.

James Arthur Ray has pleaded not guilty to three counts of manslaughter. Three people died following a sweat lodge ceremony he led near Sedona in October 2009.

Prosecutors have planned to call a handful of people this week who worked at the retreat where Ray held his "Spiritual Warrior" event. That includes the owners.

Prosecutors say Ray recklessly caused the deaths of James Shore of Milwaukee, Kirby Brown of Westtown, N.Y., and Liz Neuman of Prior Lake, Minn.

Ray's attorneys have said the deaths were a tragic accident.
