Impact of Supreme Court race

By Bonnie Shelton

WAUSAU (WAOW)--The Supreme Court race is being closely watched by many in Marathon County, but what does a win for either candidate mean for the people of Wisconsin? A local political science professor says, it could affect our everyday lives more than we think.

Eric Giordano teaches at UW Marathon County. He says this race is meaningful because for many, it's a referendum on Governor Walker and his union-busting bill.

Some view Prosser as a conservative governor walker supporter, while others see Kloppenburg as a liberal.

Although the Supreme Court is non-partisan, Giordano says, this race could change the way the court is viewed. "I think the average person should care quite a bit about this election because it will affect a lot of decisions in the next year or two."

Giordano says this race is important because the legality of the budget bill could reach the Supreme Court and whoever is elected will get to vote on that issue.
