State budget hearing moved to Neenah

STEVENS POINT (AP) -- The Legislature's budget committee's leaders say a public hearing on the state budget proposal that was set for Arcadia has been moved to Neenah.

The hearing was set for Wednesday at Arcadia High School, but the school district backed out. The committee's co-chairwoman, Sen. Alberta Darling, says the district was worried large number of people attending the hearing could disrupt classes. A message left at the district wasn't immediately returned.

Rep. Dean Kaufert and Senate President Mike Ellis, both Neenah Republicans, requested the committee move the hearing there. The hearing remains set for Wednesday.

The committee has scheduled four hearings on the budget plan. The first began Thursday in Stevens Point. The second is set for Friday in Superior and a third for Monday in West Allis.
