Stevens Point, WI-- Canvassers across the state are preparing for a possible recount after the Supreme Court election was almost too close to call.
Each county's board of canvassers is reviewing the totals and making sure the ballots in hand match the number of people who voted.
The board has until April 15th to submit those totals.
It is then that the candidates have three business days to ask for a recount.
Portage County clerk Shirley Simonis says that the recount process can get a bit tricky. Counties that have paper ballots have to be physically be recounted while those with electronic voting machines must have the ballots scanned through again.
She says that process can take anywhere from days or weeks depending on the candidates.
