Protests at Stevens Point

The Budget Hearing at U-W Stevens Point brought about protesters, but not in the way organizers had hoped. Some estimates ranged between a few hundred and several thousand.

Police even readied themselves for a crowd as large as 30,000. But those expectations were clamped down after seeing the crowd around mid afternoon. Those that did come out hoped to see more people, but were still content with the result.

"I wish it was more, but I'm happy we have a group of vocal people," said Anna Zachow, a protester.

"I wish that more people were here, but I think that every person is critical, and I think that every person is meaningful," said protester Louise Pease.

Once quitting time came around and nine to fivers got off work, protesters really started making themselves heard. But those that came out felt it was important to make their voices heard.

"It affects all aspects of Wisconsin, this bill not only affects me and my family, but my neighbors and my state," Zachow added.

Most of the protesters had left the campus by six o'clock.
