Hero's welcome for Wis. stem cell transplant boy

DARBOY, Wis. (AP) -- A 5-year-old boy battling a rare skin disorder received a hero's welcome in his northeast Wisconsin hometown of Darboy.

Charlie Knuth, his family and friends waited four months for Saturday's homecoming.

As the crowd waited in anticipation, Charlie arrived on a fire truck, and thanked the crowd as he rode through town.

Charlie's mom, Trisha Knuth, told WBAY-TV it's the first time she's seen her son this happy in a very long time and hopes many more days like this are ahead of him.

Charlie has a rare skin disease that causes blisters inside and outside his body. He underwent a transplant at the University of Minnesota on Dec. 30, and doctors have said the early prognosis is encouraging.
