Larry A. Marten, age 67, Ringle, died on Monday April 11, 2011 at his home under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services after a brief battle with pancreatic and liver cancer.
He was born on August 20, 1943 in the town of Easton, Marathon County, the son of the late Arthur and Blanche (Merriam) Marten. On August 29, 1964, Larry was united in marriage to Shirley Marten in Wausau. She survives.
Larry was a graduate of Birnamwood High School in 1961. He was employed at Wausau Homes for many years until his retirement in 2006. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and enjoyed camping in Three Lakes. He also enjoyed going to car shows, muscle cars, watching NASCAR and the Packers.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, Larry is survived by two children, Chad (Cindy) Marten, Ringle and Carrie Butenhoff, Rothschild; one granddaughter, Ember Hope Butenhoff and three sisters, Marjorie (Jim) Laffin, Wausau, Lorraine (Jack) Christensen, Hatley and Donna (Gary) Meyer, Ringle.
The Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church, E0723 Cty Rd. Z, Wausau. The Rev. Timothy Coppersmith will officiate. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4PM to 7PM at Schmidt-Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood, and again on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at the church.
