Picking up around Northern Wire after Sunday's storm
MERRILL (WAOW) -- Walls were torn off, parts of the roof fell to the ground and the machinery inside was in a disarray. People were at the scene all day, working together and checking out what was left inside the Northern Wire building.
Matt Beilke, the general manager at Northern Wire, said they came in this morning to assess damage to the building, as well as everything inside.
Beilke said they found sheet metal hanging from the ceiling and water flooding the ground. But before doing anything, he said they made sure the building was safe for workers to get inside.
"Our intentions are to get back as quickly as possible," said Beilke. "From our perspective, the needs of our employees safety are first and foremost and we don't want to introduce anybody in harm's way."
The storm didn't do as much damage to the area where workers stored the finished goods. So Beilke said he still hopes to be able to ship those products out soon.
Northern Wire makes wire forms for various different products, including lawn mowers.
When the storm hit Sunday evening, four people out of the 160 employees were working inside the building. They were able to get to shelter in the cement part of the building and were not injured in the storm.
