MENOMONIE – The UW-Stevens Point softball rallied from a three run deficit in game one and scored nine runs in the seventh inning to take game one of a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader on Monday afternoon with UW-Stout 12-4. The Pointers dropped game two 3-0.
Michelle Jones pitched the complete game in the opener, scattering six hits and allowing only one earned run with six strikeouts, earning her seventh win of the season.
The Pointers piled on the runs in the top of the seventh as all nine batters recorded a hit and Katie Krueger, Megan Tracy and Elyse Nelson drove in two runs apiece in the seventh frame to give the Pointers the victory.
In game two UW-Stout's Bri Conrad stymied the Pointer bats that were so hot just minutes earlier. The junior out-dueled the Pointers' Sara Babbitts, allowing just four hits while striking out four of the 26 batters faced.
The host Blue Devils tallied their three runs in the home half of the third, two unearned, to pull in front and split the doubleheader.
