CHICAGO (AP) -- More than 1,700 counterfeit driver's licenses from seven states have come to the U.S. from China via Chicago's O'Hare International Airport since the beginning of 2011.
Federal authorities say the seized licenses are high-quality counterfeits from Illinois, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
Most of the licenses were addressed to American college students and authorities say they're investigating some of those recipients. Authorities say some licenses were sent hidden in electronic or gift items while others were in envelopes. Federal officials say they're concerned about how easy it is to order fake identification cards on the Internet.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Thursday that Chicago Customs and Border Protection made the seizures while working at the airport's International Mail Facility.
