Merrill's MARC Center gets hit hard

Merrill, WI--  As the clean-up continues in Merrill, the Parks and Recreation Department wonders when mother nature will finally give them a break.

With the longer than average winter and the pesky snow still looming the past few weeks, opening day for many spring sports was put on hold.

And now with the extensive damage done to the MARC Center fields and ice arena after the tornado ripped through the area, no one knows when things will return to normal.

Merrill Parks and Recreation Director Dan Wendorf says that they are still assessing the damages done to the park.  It is unclear when fields will be open to athletes, however, Wendorf does say that they will try to get them ready as quickly as they can.

Thousands of people throughout the area use this park.

It's home to many sports teams including many high school and youth organizations.

For now, the Parks and Recreation department works closely with those coaches and teams for the spring season, hoping that soon the games will go on.
