Wausau, WI-- Recruiters have found that the quality of recruits has increased to its highest level in almost two decades. And education is playing a vital role in that process.
Recruitment officials say it is due to a tough civilian job market and a more stable Iraq.
At the Wausau Army recruitment station, Sergeant first class Terry Gates says a GED is no longer allowed.
Now, those who apply must have a high school diploma or higher.
Sgt. Gates also says that the Army is just like any other business. They want the most qualified and educated employees.
60 people enlist with the Army every year at the Wausau Recruitment station.
Those numbers are roughly the same as last year.
But that is no where near the hundreds of applicants they turn down.
Chance of a shower or T-storm Sunday, otherwise the weekend forecast is looking good.
