Posted:

WAUSAU (PRESS RELEASE) - Safety City will again be held this summer at Thomas Jefferson School, starting June 13th and running three weeks.    The program is targeted for children that are 5 years old, and scheduled for kindergarten in the fall of 2011.   However, if your child is currently in kindergarten and did not attend last year, you are welcomed to sign them up.  The program is run jointly by the Wausau School District and the Wausau Police Department and trains youngsters in such areas as bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, stranger danger, fire and bus safety.

Registrations forms can be picked up at the Wausau Police Department or at  a Wausau School District Elementary School/ Pre-school.   There is a $10.00 fee for the program, although financial waivers are available.  Remember the earlier you return the form the better as classes are limited.

There are three sessions per day.  Each is 1 ½ hours long, and the program runs for one week.  Session times are as follows.                   8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

                                                                        10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

                                                                          1:00 p.m. to  2:30 p.m.

This year we are offering an evening class from 6:00pm- 7:30 pm for the week of June 20-24th.

Parents are asked not to enroll their children if they have attended in previous years.  The program is on a first come first serve basis.   Any questions or financial assistance requests should contact Safety Officer Maureen L. Pilsner at the Wausau Police Department at 261-7853.
