Death Of Spider Man Costume

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Marvel Comics says Peter Parker is taking off the Spidey costume for good as part of its "Death of Spider-Man" story in its Ultimate Comics imprint.

The publisher said Monday that Parker, who in "Ultimate Spider-Man" is still a high schooler in New York, is losing the red-and-blue threads but won't say if the teenager is in mortal peril, much less who will replace him. But what's certain is that Ultimate Spider-Man is here to stay.

Marvel showed a new costume that's black with a red spider on the chest and cobwebs on the shoulders and head.

Spider-Man fans need not worry because the Ultimate's imprint is separate from Marvel's bigger universe and whatever fate befalls Parker won't count in the pages of the other series, including "Amazing Spider-Man."
