MOSINEE (WAOW) -
It's a trip unlike any other. For World War II Air Force veteran Don Krasin, getting to see the Washington DC monument built in his honor is for lack of a better word: unforgettable. "It was fantastic, you wouldn't believe, there are no words to describe it. It was really beautiful there."
Krasin's family made the trip from Marshfield to welcome him home. And while Krasin may not have the words to describe his experience, His great grand daughter found two. "Proud and happy," said Cassie Wallis.
It's the 3rd Never Forgotten Honor flight to land at Central Wisconsin Airport. Late Monday night, families, friends and honored strangers lined the terminal to kiss, hug and shake hands with the 100 veterans who made this trip.
Emotions were running high and Krasin's granddaughter said she couldn't help but feel proud to be a part of it. "Very exciting, I've been waiting for this all day, " said Lisa Wallis. "I'm very proud and just glad that he got to go on this trip."
For the veterans and their families the Honor Flight is more than just a sightseeing trip. You can see it in their eyes, the awe and gratitude that make their sacrifices even more unforgettable all these years later.
About 161 people including guardians were on the flight. Representatives from CWA say there will be more Honor Flights to come.
