Storm chasers capture incredible video in Illinois

CARLINVILLE, IL (WAOW)--Storm chasers captured some amazing pictures from a potent mix in the atmosphere led to a significant severe weather outbreak across parts of Missouri and Illinois, Tuesday.

Starting around 2:30 p.m. thunderstorms began in an extremely warm and humid atmosphere. The storm quickly began to rotate and produced reported tornadoes in Pike County, Missouri, near Bowling Green. The storm cell turned east and tracked across the Mississippi River in to Calhoun and Green Counties in Illinois.

There were also reports of tornados in Macoupin County, Illinois near the towns of Carlinville, Litchfield and Nokomis.

As storms again crossed the Mississippi River into Illinois there were also reports of funnel clouds and possible tornadoes in St. Clair, Monroe, and Randolph Counties.

Aside for the threat of tornadoes the storms put down heavy downpours of rain and dangerous hail ranging in size from nickel to softball size.

All reports of tornado touchdowns will have to be verified by National Weather Service damage surveys over the coming days.
