Stevens Point native plays Grand Ole' Opry

NASHVILLE (WAOW) -- A Stevens Point native makes his debut on the world's longest running live radio program.

Danny Mitchell played Tuesday night on the Grand Ole' Opry stage.  He's on tour with Kim Richey, an artist best known for her song writing.  Mitchell lives in Nashville, TN and is an aspiring singer/songwriter himself.

He explains the experience.

"Just as simple as walking into the building through the stage door and it's just an old beat up hardwood floor and there's pictures of Johnny Cash on the wall and Kris Kristofferson and Dolly Parton. It's unbelievable the amount of history that's in there. So, you're looking at this floor and thinking about all the people who's stood in the same spot and played on this stage."

If you'd like to hear Mitchell perform, he has an upcoming benefit concert May 6th at the Theater @ 1800 (Sentry) in Stevens Point.  The concert benefits the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra.
