Argentine dirty war witness kidnapped and released
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- The lawyer for a key witness in the death of a bishop during Argentina's dictatorship says her client survived a kidnapping this week.
Attorney Gabriela Scopel tells Radio Continental that Victor Oscar Martinez was taken Monday and held in a room where he "was told what to say" and given drugs to keep him semiconscious. Scopel says he was released late Wednesday night, hours after Argentina's president ordered federal security forces to search for him.
In the radio interview Thursday, Scopel said she doesn't know who the kidnappers are. She says that Martinez is recovering from shock and the effect of the drugs.
