Merrill Chamber seeks relief fund donations

MERRILL (WAOW)--  People seeking assistance from the tornado relief fund can apply at to the Merrill Chamber of Commerce, but Chamber leaders say the only way to fill those requests is with help from the community.

Patrick Hugunin says making a donation was the obvious thing to do.

"It's just amazing what Mother Nature can do and you hate to see anybody in our community going through that type of stuff."

That's why he stopped by the Merrill Chamber of Commerce Thursday to drop off a check on behalf of Guaranty Title.

He's one of hundreds of business and families reaching out to donate to the Tornado Relief Fund which now sits at about $50,000.  It's a huge outpouring of support, but not enough to cover the damage.

Executive Director Debbe Kinsey says even people with insurance need help.

"Folks are starting to hear back from insurance companies. They're starting to get estimates. They're finding out what is uninsured, and what they don't have full coverage on."

As the bills pile up, so does the need.

"Bring those donations in. It's going to be a long process," says Kinsey.

A full list of non-monetary items needed can be found on the Merrill Chamber's web site.
