Florence C. Kage, 93, 400 River Drive., Wausau, formerly of Marathon, died Monday April 18, 2011 at Rennes Health and Rehab Center, Weston.

She was born September 5, 1917, in the town of Marathon, daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Murr) Hornung. On August 8, 1940, she married Ray W. Kage at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. He preceded her in death October 31, 2006.

Prior to retirement, Florence worked at Marathon Cheese for 14 years and with her husband, raised ginseng for 22 years. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, playing cards, traveling, watching the Brewers and enjoying her family. Florence was a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women at St. Mary Parish, Marathon as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 469, Marathon.

Survivors include one daughter, Charlene (Tom) Hamerla, Weston, three sons, Thomas Kage, Marathon, Stephen Kage, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Peter (Julie) Kage, Plover, six grandchildren, Paul (Kelly) Hamerla, Woodruff, Christopher Hamerla, Tomahawk, Aaron "Zachary" Glover, Austin, Tex., Rachel (Matt) Gibson, Kansas City, Kan., Dana and Amanda Kage, Plover, two great grandchildren, Jacob and Naomi Hamerla, one sister, Joan Boehm, Wausau and one brother, Albin (Mary Ann) Hornung, town of Marathon.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by nine sisters, Mary Knauf, Rose Martin, Adeline Michaud, Hilda Printz, Viola Lambert, Gertrude Lang, Helen Kummerow, Lorraine Krautkramer, and Irene Sekorski, four brothers, Henry, John, Peter and George Hornung.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday April 25, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary School or the Salvation Army.
