Two Wausau buildings to get federal help

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Uncle Sam steps in to help out with two Wausau building projects.

The first building in line for tax credits from the feds is Riverview Towers on Grand Avenue. Representatives from the city's community development department said the building is structurally sound. It just needs a few upgrades inside to make apartment units better for potential tenants.

"There's a lot of interior work especially inside the units that is going to make a huge difference in the liveability factor for the residents there," said Assistant Director of Community Development Heather Wessling.

The other building cashing in on low income housing tax credits and funds for historical preservation? The Federal Building in downtown Wausau. City leaders said they plan to turn it into a place to live. They say they want to get started on the redevelopment process before 2012 and finish before the year ends.
