Janesville man arrested following fatal crash

JANESVILLE (WKOW) --  Police say a 21-year-old man faces charges after a deadly crash in Janesville.

The accident happened around 2:50 Sunday morning.

Janesville Police say 21-year old Omar Tavizon-Ramos of Janesville was driving northbound near the intersection of Center Avenue and West Racine Street, when his Malibu broadsided a southbound Chevrolet van at an intersection.

Witnesses said a southbound Chevrolet van was turning east onto West Racine Street, when it was broadsided by Tavizon-Ramos' car.

A 19-year-old passenger in the van was thrown from the van and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van, a 61-year-old woman from Janesville, was pinned in the vehicle and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Malibu, a 22-year-old Janesville man, was taken to University Hospital in Madison with life-threatening injuries.

Omar Tavizon-Ramos sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the University Hospital in Madison.

Tavizon-Ramos faces multiple charges in the crash, including Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle, knowingly operating while suspended causing death, knowingly operating while suspended causing great bodily harm, and an OWI first offense.

Witnesses said that Tavizon-Ramos was driving at a high speed prior to the accident.  

Sunday evening, Tavizon-Ramos remained at University Hospital with serious injuries.
