Walter J. Lemberger, age 77, Wittenberg, died Friday, April 22, 2011 under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services, Wausau, at his home.
He was born March 13, 1934 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Walter and Marie (Bausch) Lemberger.
Walter was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War. On August 3, 1957, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Maeder at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Menomonee Falls. She survives.
Walter worked at FW Woolworth Central Accounting Office, Milwaukee until his retirement in 1996. He was also employed at Golden Gurnsey, Milwaukee for 10 years.
Walter loved being outside wandering through the woods enjoying nature. Nothing was more special than spending time with his family camping and sitting around the camp fire. He also had a love of racing, especially the days of the dirt tracks, and also enjoyed watching NASCAR. Throughout the years, Walter and Carolyn hosted many foreign exchange students including, Markus Durr of Switzerland, Sten Andersen of Greenland and Qing Qian Sun of China.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; four children, June (Dennis) Scherff, Menomonee Falls, Jean (Jim) Koedinger, West Bend, Judith Kosma, Wales and John Lemberger, West Bend; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren (with another due any day), four siblings, Lynn Peterson, Germantown, Jim (Rita) Lemberger, Hartford, Holly (Juan) Ortiz, Kewauskum and Scott (Cindy) Lemberger, Menomonee Falls.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcia Lemberger and Diane Hochschild.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 pm, Friday, April 29, 2011 at St. Florian's Catholic Church, Hatley. Fr. Alan Burkhardt will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 pm until the time of services at the church. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
