Paying for Merrill storm damage

MERRILL (WAOW) -- With millions of dollars in damages racking up already, people in Merrill have been turning to different agencies for help footing the bill.

Even though the tornadoes didn't qualify Lincoln County residents for FEMA money, local leaders said there's still a chance they could get help from people beyond their area. Merrill's Chamber of Commerce put together a relief fund and people from around the area have donated money there.

"Our funds specifically will fund people that need assistance in the designated tornado zone that was established by the emergency management folks," said Debbe Kinsey, who is the Executive Director of the Merrill Chamber of Commerce.

There's also a chance the city of Merrill could qualify for an Emergency Assistance Program grant which could bring some state money into the mix. Depending on their income -- some families could be eligible for help with costs their insurance won't cover.
