PLATTEVILLE (Press Release) – The UW-Stevens Point softball team split their Monday match-up with the Pioneers of UW-Platteville, dropping game one of the series on a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh but rebounded with a 9-0 victory in the nightcap to salvage the split.
Michelle Jones suffered the loss in game one, as she scattered eight hits over 6.1 innings of work, striking out six batters.
Offensively, Kelly Arndt, Katie Shulfer and Katie Krueger each recorded a pair of hits and Arndt added two RBIs.
In game two, the Pointers posted three runs in the game's opening inning to take the early lead and rode a stellar pitching performance of Sara Babbitts to secure the victory. The Pointers pounded out 12 hits in support of Babbitts' six-hitter.
Kimberly Liegel finished the day with three hits and two RBIs while Elyse Nelson and Arndt each added a pair of hits in the victory.
UW-Stevens Point (19-13, 4-8 WIAC) returns to action Tuesday afternoon with a home match-up against the Titans of UW-Oshkosh at McCarty Memorial Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
