Local businesses pitch in for relief effort

MERRILL (WAOW) -- Some businesses around Merrill lend a helping hand in clean-up efforts.

The First Street Coffee Shop had a "free coffee" day on Saturday where people could get a free drink and then donate money toward the tornado relief fund. Store owner Dawn Swan said customers have been generous with their donations. Swan said she's seen the community come together.

"There's people everyday helping put the wood in the wood pile and the metal in the metal pile," said Swan. "It's just amazing how fast roofs are being fixed and people come together here in Merrill."

Another addition to the local economy is the need for certain specialized businesses. Local roofers and contractors fill their days with work cleaning up and re-building homes and buildings damaged in the storms.
