WAUSAU (WAOW)--Newsline 9 received this newsroom from UW Stevens Point:

Five' exhibit features student prints, sculpture and paintings

View a collection of prints, paintings and sculpture by five award-winning University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point bachelor of fine arts (BFA) candidates during an exhibition at the Edna Carlsten Gallery May 1-13.

The BFA Senior Exhibition, "Five," will open with a reception on Sunday, May 1, from 2–4 p.m. and close with a reception on Friday, May 13, from 3–6 p.m. The five artists will be at both receptions to interact with patrons of the gallery and answer questions. The Edna Carlsten Gallery, located on the second floor of the Noel Fine Arts Center, is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Thursday evenings from 7–9 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 1–4 p.m.

"Five" includes the work of Alexandra (Rose) Adams, a printmaker from Prairie Farm; August Kochanowski, a sculptor from Junction City; Joshua Kolbow, a woodblock printmaker from West Bend; Whitney Long, a painter from Larsen; and Nikki Schwontkowski, a printmaker and installation artist from Fox River Grove, Ill. The exhibit will feature large abstract figurative steel structures, satirical woodblock prints, large acrylic paintings based on fields of nature, installation work with strings and nails, prints of incorporeal Midwest wildlife and abstract expressionist monotypes on intaglio etched plates.

The five artists are all winners of competitive University Personnel Development Committee Student Research Grants for their creative art. Between the five, they have achieved 15 university awards for academics, athletics and service, and 12 art awards and scholarships. Three of the students hold elected positions in UWSP student organizations.
