MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Nearly 60,000 people tied the knot last year in Wisconsin. But more than 34,000 called it quits.
The annual report on marriages and divorces issued by the state Department of Health Services shows that the three-decade decline in weddings each year continued in 2010 when 29,952 couples walked down the aisle. That's down 105 from the previous year.
The number of divorces increased by 580 to 17,285. The ratio of marriages to divorces continues to get closer.
In 2010, for every divorce there were 1.7 weddings. That compares to 2.1 a decade ago and 9.2 weddings for every divorce back in 1920.
The median age of people who got married last year was nearly 26 for women and just over 27 for men.
