Wis. Democrats to file sixth recall of GOP senator
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Democrats plan to file a sixth recall petition targeting a GOP senator for his vote to curtail collective bargaining rights.
Organizers for the committee to recall Sen. Robert Cowles of Green Bay say they'll turn in the signatures Thursday needed to trigger a recall election. If election officials verify at least 16,000 of the signatures, a recall election will be called sometime this summer.
Cowles would join five GOP senators and three Democratic senators in line for recall elections. The senators are being targeted for their support or opposition to Gov. Scott Walker's plan to strip most public employees of collective bargaining rights.
Efforts against three other Democrats fell short of the filing deadline. Petitions for two more GOP senators and one Democrat are due next week.
