Laura A. Obermeier, 95, of Wausau, died Thursday April 28, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital under the care Comfort Care & Hospice Services.
Laura was born May 31, 1915 to the late Andrew and Amanda (Kottke) Olson in Augusta, WI. She married Walter J. Obermeier on Dec. 21, 1935 in Fairchild, WI.
Laura was formerly employed with Marathon Electric, Wausau for 25 years, until her retirement. She was a member of the Christian Assembly Church and was active in the Christian Woman's. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting. Laura made at least one quilt for every grandchild, great grandchild and great great grandchild born into the family. She also enjoyed as a past time, reading and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her four children, Walter (Mae) Obermeier, Venice, FL, Ruthann Thompson, San Diego, CA., Susan (Harley) Passmore, Kettle Falls, WA., and Wendy (Orlando Salter) Tiffany, Wausau; 28 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; 52 great great grandchildren; one great great great grandson; a brother, David (Carolyn) Olson, Fairchild, WI; four sisters, Ida (Robert) Sessions, Athens, Betty Pickett, Wausau, Almeda Atherton, Black River Falls, and Patricia (DuWane) Sessions, Marathon; and a son in-law, James Vesper, Elk Mound, WI.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Walter; two daughters, Loretta Knuth and Lauri Vesper; a son, George Obermeier; grandson, Joel Obermeier; and infant grandson, Richard Walter Obermeier; a granddaughter, Elaine Knuth; four brothers, Raymond, Ernest, Clarence, and Alvin Olson; five sisters, Ruth Berg, Lois Olson, Esther Knuth, Dorothy Pozega, and Bertha Rice; and two sons in-law, Jack Thompson and Donald Knuth.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday April 30, 2011 at Christian Assembly, 400 Grand Ave. Wausau. Rev. Dennis Romine will officiate. Burial will be at Fairchild Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Saturday.
Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau is assisting the family with arrangements.
