WAUSAU (WAOW)--"Take Back The Night" is designed to raise awareness for domestic abuse and sexual assault. The rally and march educates community members on the importance of speaking out and standing against abuse.
Students at UW-Marathon County and leaders from the Wausau Women's Community joined forces to plan the event. Organizers say coming out to "Take Back The Night" will make people more vigilant and open the lines of communication regarding abuse.
This year, the event was also geared toward families. Arts and crafts were provided along with exhibits meant to entertain and inform.
People who attended also marched downtown and held a candlelight vigil back on campus to remember those who have lost their lives due to abuse.
A guest speaker and local music acts added to the event.
