Madison, WI (AP)-- The chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison is continuing her defense of her plan to spin off the state's flagship school from the rest of the University of Wisconsin system.
Chancellor Biddy Martin says that her plan, the New Badger Partnership, will benefit UW-Madison and the state of Wisconsin.
She says her plan will allow the flagship to continue bringing in over $1 billion in new money to Wisconsin in the form of research money, philanthropy and other sources.
Earlier this year, Martin wrote to the governor's office that UW-Madison wants flexibility in the face of declining state aid. Autonomy for the campus that would also grant it freedom to set tuition among other things.
