MADISON (AP) -- Democratic efforts to recall two Wisconsin GOP senators are falling short of their signature goals.
Organizers for the committee to recall Sen. Glenn Grothman of West Bend say they were 5,000 signatures short of the number needed for a recall. Organizers trying to recall Sen. Mary Lazich of New Berlin were 2,000 signatures short.
While the Grothman group says it will miss the deadline, the Lazich group says the state Democratic Party may still file the petition if it turns up enough extra signatures.
Six Republican and three Democratic senators are in line for recalls for their support or opposition to curtailing collective bargaining rights for public employees. Efforts to recall four other Democrats failed last week.
If petitions are certified, most recall elections would likely be held July 12.
