DEPERE (Press Release) – The UW-Stevens Point softball team closed out the 2011 season with a pair of nonconference victories on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Green Knights of St. Norbert College 8-7 in eight innings and 9-7 in the nightcap.

The Pointers finish the season 23-15 overall, mathematically eliminated from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament.

The Pointers capitalized on nine St. Norbert errors to win game one in extra innings as not one of the Pointers runs was earned.

Down 4-0 heading to the sixth, the Pointers plated their first run as Kim Liegel scored on an error by the third baseman.

The Pointers plated five runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 6-6 thanks in part to a two-out double from Kristin Selbach and a two RBI double from Alicia Hahnemann.

In extras, the pointers again got runners on base thanks to two errors and both came around to score when Rennicke reached on an error by the catcher.

Sara Babbitts earned the victory, her ninth on the season, pitching the final two innings in relief of starter Cassie Krum.

Selbach finished the day 1-for-2 with three RBI while Hahnemann drove in two runs with her only hit of the day.

Game two saw a combined eight errors committed by both teams but it was an early four-run first inning, thanks in part to a Lauren Watkins double.

The Pointers added a pair of runs in the third with an Adri Amelianovich double.

An unearned run in the fifth and two more in the seventh helped the Pointers finish the season on a high note.

Five Pointers finished the day with two hits each while Watkins drove in three runs and Kelly Arndt and Amelianovich each drove in a pair.

Chelsea Hensler recorded the victory, her second of the season, and Michelle Jones earned the save, pitching three innings in relief.
