Saturday Sports Report - 05/07

Posted:

(WAOW) - Only once in the last four years has the Stevens Point baseball team won the regular season conference title, but three times during that same stretch, the Pointers captured the WIAC tourney title.

They have a chance to make the road easier this year. With a sweep over Stout Saturday, the Pointers would win the regular season title and clinch home field advantage.

They got a game one win with a run in the bottom of the ninth, but game two started much more quickly. The Pointers put five across in the opening frame en route to a 9-6 win and the number one seed for the WIAC tournament.

On the high school diamond, Wisconsin Rapids wins its sixth straight game and Rhinelander picks up a big win at DC Everest.

Also at Everest, the Greens softball team goes unbeaten at its quad tournament.
