Strong winds knock down trees, power lines

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Monday afternoon's strong winds left a lot of damage to clean up.

The area was scattered with downed trees, broken limbs, and damaged power lines. A tree fell on a house in Weston, causing a gas leak and damaging the roof.

Elsewhere, trees lay fallen on other homes, across roads, and even in a cemetery. A group of trees hit some townhouses in Weston. And near a health care facility, several pine trees fell down in a row, their massive roots ripped out of the ground.

Ed Dombroski's house in Weston was damaged when his front-yard tree fell on it. He said it happened so fast. But he said he's trying to be positive.

"It always happens to somebody else until it happens to you," said Dombroski. "Fortunately we do have insurance and it'll cover it. But still, there's quite a bit of damage on the roof, I think. But we did put new windows in and it didn't break any of them."

Damage crews were seen late Monday afternoon starting to clean up.
