Kansas to host annual Farm Aid benefit concert

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The annual Farm Aid benefit for independent farmers and ranchers is coming to Kansas.

Singer Willie Nelson announced Wednesday the all-day festival will be held Aug. 13 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. It will be the first concert at the new stadium, which is scheduled to open in June as the new home of pro soccer club Sporting Kansas City.

Along with Nelson, who's the Farm Aid president, scheduled performers so far include Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews. Other acts will be announced later.

Farm Aid began in 1985 to raise money to help struggling farm families remain on their land. The concert was held last year in Milwaukee and two years ago in suburban St. Louis.
