MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Dane County authorities have finished investigating the death of a 33-year-old inmate found hanging in a cleaning closet two weeks ago.
Sheriff's officials say Rajib K. Mitra was being held in the jail for sentencing on child pornography charges when he kicked the doorstopper out of a closet that let it close but not securely latch.
Mitra returned a short time later and slipped inside the closet undetected. He was found dead there later the afternoon of April 29.
The Dane County medical Examiner's office ruled Mitra's death a suicide following an autopsy.
Jail records show Mitra had been seen by mental health staff to address concerns for his safety, including the day of his death. Mitra had told the staff he wasn't thinking of suicide or hurting himself.
