Residents shocked stabbing took place in tight-knit community

NEW HOPE (WAOW)--One person is dead and two others critically hurt after a stabbing in the Portage County town of New Hope.

Newsline 9 spoke with community members Monday night who didn't want to appear on camera, but say they're shocked at how something like this could happen in such a close knit community. Some who knew Tyler Dahms said he was a "trustworthy and helpful" person who they didn't think had the capacity to com mitt such a crime.

Now, they grieve Karen Dombrowski--the wife, mother and friend who was killed.

Meanwhile, little information is known about what happened on Rolling Hills Road Sunday night.

Dahms is currently being held at the Portage County Jail on charges of aggravated battery. Portage County officials said his arraignment is set for Tuesday afternoon.

He attended Amherst High School. Dahms' arrest is yet another challenge for his family.

His brother, Peter, went missing back in 2006 while working on a railroad bridge near Burlington, Iowa. Peter's body was found in the Mississippi River four months later.

Police believed the 22 year old's boat capsized because of high winds and strong waves.
