MADISON (Press Release) - For the third consecutive year, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater will represent the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.
UW-Stevens Point earned an automatic bid into the 55-team field by winning the WIAC Tournament title, while UW-Whitewater claimed one of 15 at-large bids. Both teams will participate in a six-team, double-elimination regional in Whitewater, Wis., May 18-21.
The Pointers (32-8) will make the program's 13th NCAA appearance and open regional action against Aurora University (Ill.) (29-11). The Warhawks (32-11) will make their 14th NCAA showing and face University of St. Thomas (Minn.) (27-16) in their opening game. UW-Whitewater won the NCAA Division III national championship in 2005.
Also competing in the Whitewater, Wis., Regional will be College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) (35-5) and Hamline University (Minn.) (28-13).
The winner of the regional will advance to the finals, hosted by Lawrence University (Wis.) and the Fox Cities Visitors and Convention Bureau, that will be held May 27-31 at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis.
