UNDATED (AP)--Distractions could be costing larger companies millions of dollars each year, according to a survey of 515 white-collar workers done by the polling group, uSamp, and the software company Harmon.ie.
Specifically, distractions caused by social media, e-mail and badly designed office. According to results of the survey, these distractions may cost a 1,000-worker company more than $10 million a year.
The survey found more than half of U.S. workers waste an hour or more each work day on interruptions, with 60% of them coming from electronic devices and email and 40% coming from more traditional sources like chats with colleagues.
Also, more than 45% of workers say they cannot go more than 15 minutes, on average, without interruption, and almost two out of three workers admit to tuning out of meetings to read an email, tweet or make a phone call.
