HOLMEN (AP) -- Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has a Wisconsin connection -- his wife Callista is from Whitehall.
He spoke to about 200 people Wednesday evening at Drugan's Castle Mound Country Club in Holmen Wednesday evening.
He told said that he has always paid close attention to Wisconsin and called Gov. Scott Walker a "role model."
He recently landed in hot water with conservatives over statements he made about Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan's Medicare proposal. He later apologized. A Minnesota voter showered the Gingrich and his wife with glitter Tuesday to protest Gingrich's opposition to gay marriage.
He insisted his candidacy is doing fine and blamed a Washington press corps not happy with "a real conservative."
