WOOD COUNTY (WAOW)--Officials reported several potential tornado touchdowns across the area Sunday night.
In Wood County, Sheriff Thomas Reichert said at least one or two possible tornadoes touched down in the township of Saratoga. The storms caused significant damage. Trees were blown over, homes were damaged, and debris lay scattered across yards.
Emergency crews set up a command center in the Saratoga Town Hall. The Red Cross was on hand to help storm victims and to offer food, water, and medical attention.
The Red Cross reported one Wood County family's home was struck by lightning and significantly damaged. Also, a Red Cross official said four people went to the emergency room with storm-related injuries, although the official would not elaborate on the nature of those injuries.
The command center was scheduled to stay open throughout Sunday night into Monday morning. Red Cross workers planned to continue to survey the area for people in need of help. Emergency crews planned to meet Monday morning to assess the damage and continue recovery efforts.
