Cranberry farm leveled in Sunday storm

TOWN OF FINLEY (WAOW)--Marshes stretching along County Road F are Bill Hatch's livelihood. Imagine his shock when he arrived Sunday night to see most of the buildings he uses to run Cranberry Creek Cranberries Inc. leveled.

"It was quite a sobering sight to say the least," said Hatch. At over 500 acres, Cranberry Creek is one of the largest cranberry farms in Wisconsin. Hatch said the outpouring of support from fellow cranberry growers has been overwhelming. At one point, around 100 people worked to clean up the marsh.

Despite the mess, Hatch is optimistic. "At this point, it shouldn't have any affect on our crop if we can get our equipment up and running."

Tammy Braund waited in her home's crawl space as the tornado touched down and ravaged the area. She said when she walked outside, the scene was shocking. The clean up is daunting.

Hatch is glad no one was injured. He said everything broken or destroyed can be replaced most likely by September and cranberry season.
