
(WAOW) - The gun goes up at the state track meet in LaCrosse in just eight days. The field is filled Thursday with sectionals all across the state.
In division one at Wausau East, Lumberjack freshman Vanessa Boorse brought home the win in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 18 seconds.
In the boys' 200, Marshfield's Jeremy Robinson wins in 22.23 seconds. He heads to state in four events.
In the girls 3200, Wausau West junior Sarah Poirier builds a lead and wins by more than four seconds and in the boys' race, Jacob Dirkman from DC Everest was third going into turn three on the final lap, but on his 17th birthday, he rallied to break the school record, winning in 9:32.
Colby was the site of a division two sectional. Nekoosa's Raquel Ebbe claims the sectional crown in the triple jump with a jump of 36 feet.
Brittany Dulak from Mosinee takes first in the 100 hurdles in 15.19 seconds and Tomahawk's Matt Gerber wins the 100 meter dash in 10.83 seconds and also brings home the 200 meter title.
In the division three sectional at Rosholt, Edgar's Kyle Schueller won the 100 and triple jump and second in the high jump and 200 to advance to state.
Wausau East's Evan Verploegh takes second in the Marshfield tennis sectional to move on to state. The number one doubles teams from Stevens Point and Wausau West also advance after finishing third and fourth, respectively.
Softball regionals also get under way. Edgar and Iola come away with tourney opening wins to keep their seasons alive.
Also Thursday, State Park Speedway held its first race of the year.
Mark Macksey took the checkered flag to claim the Build From the Heart 75.
