WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Monday morning's nickel-sized hail is just the recent of a series of storms we've had in the area. Those storms are taking a toll on cars.
At Brickner's in Wausau, the auto body shop has seen quite a few cars come through with hail damage. One Honda Accord came in completely beaten up by hail. Technicians had to do a lot of work. The total damage cost was $8,000.
Technicians at Brickner's said they've received about six or eight cars a week damaged by hail. Damages range from $500 to $8,000.
Auto body technician Kevin McCarthy said hail can do quick damage, but drivers can take steps to avoid making it worse.
"If they start hitting hail, pull over and stop," said McCarthy. "You don't want to be going 55 on the highway when it starts raining down on you."
But, McCarthy added, there's not much you can do to protect your car sitting outside in a hail storm.
Technicians say they expect to receive more damaged cars throughout the next few weeks.
