WATERLOO, IA (Press Release) - With more two out hitting leading the way, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters took a 4-0 lead in the first inning Wednesday night en route to a 6-2 win over the Waterloo Bucks at Riverfront Stadium.
Bobby Martin began a string of five two out singles off of Bucks starter Chris Dunn and eventually scored on a Kyle Peterson single one batter later. Josh Cyr, Tyler Kamtz and Seth Wheeler all added RBI singles to the mix to give the Rafters an early lead for the second straight game.
Four runs proved to be plenty of support for starter Nestor Bautista. The lefty from Ball State allowed single runs in the first and third to make it close, but avoided any big innings through six frames. Bautista ended the night allowing six hits, two walks and punching out two evening his record at 1-1 on the young season.
After reliever Evan Stermer kept the Bucks scoreless in the seventh, The Rafters plated a pair of runs in the eighth inning. Curtis Frisbie and Justin Jirschele reached to start the inning then Martin singled to left, picking up his first RBI on his third hit. One out later Cyr singled, giving the first baseman three hits and two RBI on the night and putting the Rafters up for good. Jirschele, with two hits on the day, extended his hitting streak to eight games.
Now with back-to-back wins the Rafters will try to make it a three game winning streak back home Thursday at 7:05. The La Crosse Loggers are in town for YMCA Night and Thirsty Thursday.
